Sherrill Welcome, LCSW
I haven’t always been a therapist.
I started my career in case management, supporting families of neurodiverse children with complex medical conditions and support needs. Since then, I’ve worked as a hospital discharge planner in Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation - as a therapist in an agency setting working directly with older adults and individuals with disabilities - and as a therapist working with older adults in assisted living.
The common thread in each of these jobs? I’ve always supported family caregivers. I’m in my comfort zone talking to clients about grief, complex medical conditions, cognitive decline, medical appointments, chronic illness, aging, caregiver stress, parenting, family dynamics, neurodivergence and major life transitions. Many of my client identify as the “sandwich generation” - caring for their aging parents at the same times as their own children, or even grandchildren! I’m here to support you in re-connecting with who you are outside of your caregiving role.
I have a trauma-informed, LGBTQIA affirming, neurodiverse affirming private practice, with training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, internal family systems (IFS), eye movement desensitization and reintegration (EMDR), emotional freedom technique (tapping/EFT) and positive behavior supports for individuals with I/DD. Additionally, I have a certificate in aging through the NASW-NJ and enjoy working with older adults.
Please contact me if you’d like to consider starting therapy. I offer a free consultation to determine whether we are a good fit.
